About Me

Izzul Irfan (he/him) is an actor and theatre-maker based in Singapore. A dynamic and versatile performer, he strives to create performances that are authentic and emotionally resonant, believing it to be the heart of good theatre.

His acting work spans a diverse range of genres and forms, including but not limited to: plays, musicals, Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA), performance-lectures, promenade and immersive theatre, as well as experimental works. Izzul’s most prominent stage credits include The Emperor’s New Clothes (Wild Rice), Pickle Party (The Theatre Practice), Dreamplay: Asian Boys Vol. 1 (Wild Rice), Hard Mode (Checkpoint Theatre), Desert Blooms (Centre 42), Four Horse Road (The Theatre Practice), Re: Assembly (Drama Box), _T0701_ (Zeugma/SIFA), ANGKAT (M1 Singapore Fringe Festival), Anything Can Happen/Something Must Happen (Wild Rice), and A Clockwork Orange (Teater Ekamatra).

Beyond the stage, Izzul has also made his foray into on-screen acting through works such as Gallery of Secrets: The Lost Lily (The Theatre Practice), Sukar Melepaskan (Drama Box), and The Patch & Punnet Show (Patch & Punnet). For all Screen performances, Izzul is managed and represented by Lighthouse by Fiction Shore.

Izzul is an alumnus of Wild Rice’s Young & Wild program. Under the tutelage of acclaimed theatre-maker Edith Podesta, he was trained in the acting techniques of Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, and Declan Donellan. Through the course, he was also trained in Viewpoints, Laban, and Devising, with an appended course on Fitzmaurice Voicework led by Petrina Kow. As part of his continual study of the performer’s body, Izzul deepened his knowledge of movement and choreography in Edith Podesta’s Wild Moves program, exploring the works of Crystal Pite, Merce Cunningham, and Yvonne Rainer (to name a few). His current interests lie at the intersection of fat bodies and movement, in particular on the queerness of the fat body and the politics of desirability.

Apart from performing, Izzul was the Founding Creative Director of The Runaway Company (TRC), a theatre collective dedicated to creating an accessible platform for youths to produce music theatre works. His directing credits include Wilderness and Void Deck (TRC). Izzul has also worked as a playwright for The Concubine (Independent), The Story of Tonight (TRC), and Runaway: An Original Musical (Independent). He was also part of Teater Ekamatra’s Playwright Mentorship Programme.

Izzul graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from Yale-NUS College, majoring in Urban Studies with a minor in Arts & Humanities.

For the 2026 Season, Izzul is excited to be part of the following productions: Spring Awakening: The 24th Annual Rice Ball - an evening of music and generosity as part of Wild Rice’s annual fundraiser; Secondary: The Musical - an understudy in the revival of Checkpoint Theatre’s landmark musical on Singapore’s education system; Charged - a searing play by Teater Ekamatra on race-relations set within the armed forces; and The Radicalization of Mrs Mary Lim-Rodrigues - an exciting new work from Wild Rice about one woman’s desire to do good in a sharp-edged system.
